Serendipity – Luck by Chance

The definition of Serendipity is luck by chance! but is it ‘by chance’ when someone takes the time to share their luck?

In this economy each of us is at least trying to shop wisely, squeezing out maximum effect from minimum expenditure but it isn’t always easy.   While I’m very good at finding the things I need at a good price, I’ve never quite mastered the art of the Coupon and admire those people who are organized enough to use coupons more than occasionally.

This week  I came across two great resources, which literally lead you to the savings without even pulling out your scissors.  Both are free services and available 24/7:

  • One is a mobile app, website FaceBook and Twitter account ~ http://www.Cellfire.com , which allows you to browse local offers and then simply show the coupon on your cell phone screen to the cashier.  You can even save coupons to your grocery card!
  • The other is a colleague from one of my networking groups Michelle Bank; a Mom of 2, a Special Ed Teacher and Coupon Queen whose family and friends convinced her the world needed her talents so:  http://www.michellebank.comteaching countless ways to save was born.

Enjoy and share folks ~ A virtual bonanza!  I don’t know about you but I’ve got supplies to buy.

EXTRA:

Following a tip from a  Heidi one of our beloved readers I checked out Groupon ~ just in case I’m not the only one here is the 411.

  1. Sign up and check your email, Facebook or Twitter feeds for daily deals on cool local businesses.
  2. Share it, Groupons are deals which you can pass only via email or broadcast to your social networks
  3. Enjoy it – Print vouchers or pull them up on your mobile device to present it to the business

  1. Serendipity also means setting out to look for a thing, and finding something completely different – but it proves to be more useful or beneficial than what you were looking for in the first place.
This happens a lot to writers, who often go looking for a particular word, and they find something else that triggers off a whole new idea for a blog, an article, a book!

It happens to me quite a lot.

    Hey Rachel,

Thanks for checking in and thanks for all you do with animal rescue.

I have to admit you are one step ahead of me, you at least clip the coupons! I opened a drawer recently to find several dozen that have been stored since the early 90’s! Coupon Limbo indeed :( I do manage to do Costco coupons but only by driving the flyer around with me! and find it eminently frustrating if I forget to put it in the car or have just bought something when I discover the coupon. I have been known to save the item and take it back if the reduction is sufficient – sad I know but… LOL.

I have a friend I used to shop with (she’s now moved to Vegas) and she always had the coupons, but I do get good deals on things like cars… I can read a used car body like a book and car dealers cringe when I come near (LOL).

Wouldn’t you just love to have your phone search for the appropriate coupon and scan the bar code at check out – wonder if there is an app for that? If so I’d by the app and the phone to run it!

As for whats wrong with us… we just concentrate our energies on other stuff 😀

  6. HI Laine,

For me serendipity is about being in the right place at the right time (maybe sometimes “wrong” place? (smile) ) – and there’s no coincidence! Finding your blog is certainly the “right” place and thanks for this post!

A deep truth Rosanne! Although we set out in one direction, the opportunities which pop up can take us in a different direction. I would suggest you read my article about called Dream World or Dream Life – very much on that theme.

Are your books published outside of Australia? I love puzzles and thrillers so…

    Please come back soon

  8. Okay I am really grateful that you shared this because here’s the thing…aside from the fact that you shared such a valuable resource with us…you also shared the fact that you have not quite “mastered the art of the coupon”. I thought I was the only member of that club, always feeling inadequate when on line at the store with everyone else who is prepared with their coupons and am asked “Do you have any coupons?” and I have to say “yes but they are all at home” or having a $300 grocery bill and only one coupon to produce. I always feel guilty and think “what’s wrong with me?”…only to return home to one of many of my little coupon organizers chock full of coupons that I dutifully clip each week and organize in those wonderful little folders and that go into expired limbo having never been used. At least I am not alone : )

  9. I’m wagging wildly seeing that you are writing again, Laine!! Yeah!! We are both returning to our Real selves…

Thanks for the tips. Another good one that I like is Groupon, especially since most support small, local businesses (although not small/local, the NordstromRack $25 for a $50 gift card was a great deal!)

Wags & licks to you, dear friend!

    Thanks Heidi,

This one just happened to post itself – so maybe the powers that be got fed up of me not writing.

I haven’t used Groupon but may have to investigate and add it to the tip.

    Welcome back to you too.

  11. Serendipity is something I could use a little more of. I actually met my wife this way. I’m going to check out cellfire. Thanks, Laine.

In which case you are already a lucky man indeed ~ and the fact that your realize it makes it all the more so!

We’re all scratching together any money we can find right now… whether it is looking for the best fuel prices or comparison shopping for groceries. I just can’t spend half of Sunday morning scouring the newspapers so these new services work well.

    Have fun!

thanks for sharing what you’ve learned. I have one additional site I’d like to share. it’s livingsocial.com. It provides over 50% savings on locations you provide in your profile. And it’s free. I’ve gotten some great savings here and found some great stores that I didn’t even realize existed in my neighborhood.
